This is a worked first-job resume example for a fictional student applying for an office assistant vacancy. It shows how education and a school activity can supply relevant evidence without pretending to be paid employment. For the drafting steps, see how to write a resume with no experience.
The school, dates and responsibilities below are illustrative. Copy the structure only. Replace every detail with information you can explain truthfully, and remove sections that do not apply.

Why the sections are in this order
Education appears first because this fictional student’s qualification and coursework are relevant to the vacancy. The registration activity then supplies evidence for records, visitor queries and following a schedule. The research project shows a different responsibility rather than repeating the same “teamwork” claim.
The example omits a summary because the connection is already clear. A summary is optional, not a requirement for every beginner. If your relevant volunteering is stronger than your education, put that section first. The section-order and layout guide explains alternatives.
Customize the example against one vacancy
Suppose a listing emphasizes document filing rather than visitor reception. Keep a real document task near the top and shorten the visitor bullet. If you never maintained a registration spreadsheet, remove that claim; do not assume attending an event means you organized it.
A strong adaptation changes the evidence, not just the job title. For a retail vacancy, a genuine fundraiser task involving customers could be more relevant than the research source list. For a warehouse vacancy, an actual supplies-organizing task might fit better. Use the employer’s duties to decide.
Replace vague claims with accurate details
“Helped with an event” is a starting note. Ask what you handled. “Checked names against the registration list and directed visitors to their assigned room” is more informative, if true.
Do not turn that into “managed the event” or “improved attendance by 30%” without evidence. An ordinary task described clearly is enough. Find further examples in resume bullet points and school project entries.
What if your background is different?
You can use a volunteer role, informal paid work, helping a family business, a club responsibility or a personal project. Use an accurate heading and dates. Do not label a personal project as an employer position. The experience qualification guide can help decide where it belongs.
If you have no relevant activities yet, keep education and genuine skills concise. Consider a small practice project connected to the vacancy, such as a spreadsheet using clearly labelled sample data. Completing a practice task does not establish professional experience with an employer’s system.
What to leave out
Delete sample honours, certificates, addresses and responsibilities you do not have. Do not add references or personal identifiers just to fill space; follow the vacancy’s instructions. Choose skills you can demonstrate using the skills evidence examples.
Before you send it
Replace all bracketed fields and the fictional name. Check dates, contact details and spelling. Open the exported document, confirm it is readable, and review any information the application form extracts. Follow the requested file type and keep a copy of your final version.
This example supplies a structure and explanation. It cannot guarantee an interview, and it should never be submitted with fictional details intact.
